THE C.C. WANG FAMILY COLLECTION OF FANTASTIC ROCKS

An introduction to the Wang Jiqian (C.C. Wang) family collection of rocks is a bit superfluous inasmuch as his landscape paintings are world renowned and a benchmark in contemporary Chinese painting. His view of the triad of universe-man-rock is evident in his philosophy as well as his work of the brush and his appreciation of rocks, which are all one and the same.

In our usual E&J Frankel manner, we came up with a title for this show “C.C. On The Rocks”. C. C., in all good humor, thought this was fun however on reflection we favored a more serious tone.

If we have done our job well, this catalog should convey C.C.’s feelings and ideas about his beloved stones, and project as much of C.C. Wang’s vision as possible through this ancient Chinese form ofexpression of “rock connoisseurship”. We have discussed the visual, tactile, allegorical and emotional aspects of each rock with C.C. One of the most important things that this collection emphasizes is nature. None of the rocks have alterations or “ enhancement” by man’s hand.
