This collection of Chinese paintings, scholars objects and Ming and Qing dynasty jades has been amassed from the 1970s to the mid 1990s. The consistent quality represented by these objects of Chinese art bespeaks a collector whose world travel and sophistication has allowed him to enjoy the highest levels of connoisseurship and appreciation of Chinese art produced from the Tang dynasty (618-906) through the 18th century.

Mr. Wool has been involved in the world of communication, with CBS and ABC, and other businesses. He has traveled throughout Asia. E&J Frankel, Ltd. has been the dealer chosen by Mr. Wool to help him in his pursuit over some thirty years. His formal education in Chinese art included several years’ study at the New School, in the department Edith Frankel formed in the 1970s.

The earliest pieces in the collection are excellent examples of mingqi (tomb figures) of the Tang dynasty, including a rare figure of an official depicted in a kowtowing, prostrate position; and two “fat ladies,” whose style was actually a fashion inspired by the corpulent beauty, Yang Guifei, consort of the Tang Emperor Xuanzong (r. 713-756); a foreign equestrienne; and a male court figure.
