We are pleased to be able to offer 46 pieces of the Johanneum Collection of porcelain. Augustus the Strong King of Poland and Protector of Saxony amassed his treasures and often traded armies for his beloved porcelain. He used any means to gather porcelain of the Far East. He said; "Porcelain is like oranges (a great delicacy) once you have tasted of their beauty you cannot live without them" He single-handedly created the "porcelainmania" of the early eighteenth century in Europe and founded the Meissen factories The collection also includes portraits of the King and Queen as well as an original leather bound Saxoniar Law Codex, as dictated by Augustus the Strong, dated 1713 and a rare copy of the first sales catalog in which pieces from the Johanneum were sold.
